We oftentimes don’t pay attention to our feet and ankles unless something starts to hurt, but considering all we ask of them on a daily basis, it’s imperative that we pay a little more attention to our feet and give them the care they deserve. If you want to do your part to ensure your feet are healthy today, tomorrow and in the future, there are three things you should strive to do every day to help protect and strengthen them.
The first and simplest piece of advice we can provide is to get up and use your feet. Staying seated for the majority of the day isn’t going to help your feet and ankles reach their full potential. Get up and move each day, and strive to hit 10,000 steps. This normal movement will help keep muscles, joints and ligaments strong and functioning properly. Find new ways to incorporate more walking or movement in your life.
Take your foot care to the next level by not just using your feet, but challenging them. Put them through a workout, go for a run or play a game of soccer with your friends. Intensive physical activity will really help to strengthen your feet and ankles and prepare them to handle larger loads of stress. Obviously strenuous physical activity brings with it the risk of injury, but that’s a chance we must be willing to take if we want to put our feet in the right environment to be the healthiest they can be.
